#End Bad Governance Protest: NANS JCC Kano Axis Vice Chairman Condemns Unlawful Detention of Minors, Issues 5-Day Ultimatum and Demands Immediate Release of Detained Protesters
I, Amb Abdulaziz Hussaini Tudun Wada, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Kano Axis, am deeply disturbed and outraged by the unjust arrest and detention of underaged protesters in Northern Nigeria. These children, who courageously raised their voices in a peaceful protest against bad governance, have become victims of a broken system that continues to violate their fundamental human rights.
It is unacceptable that minors, who should be protected and supported by society, are instead subjected to harsh and inhumane treatment, including the excessive and punitive bail condition of 10,000,000 Naira. Such conditions are not only unjust but also highlight the growing disregard for the rule of law and the welfare of Nigerian children. As young citizens, they deserve empathy, guidance, and understanding—not unlawful punishment.
We, at NANS JCC Kano Axis, demand the following:
1. Immediate Release of Detained Protesters: We issue a 5-day ultimatum to the relevant authorities to secure the unconditional release of all detained minors. Any failure to comply with this demand will result in nationwide mobilization and peaceful demonstrations to ensure their freedom and justice.
2. Compensation for the Families of the Victims: The trauma inflicted upon these children and their families cannot be overlooked. We demand that the federal government provide adequate compensation to the families of the detained minors for the undue emotional and psychological distress caused.
3. Scholarship Grants for the Minors: We insist on the immediate provision of scholarships to these children, enabling them to continue their education and reclaim their future. Education is a fundamental right that should never be compromised, especially when these young voices are standing up for the betterment of our nation.
4. Public Apology and Forgiveness: The Nigerian government must issue a formal apology to the children, their families, and the Nigerian people. Furthermore, we seek the forgiveness of Nigerians for this grave injustice, acknowledging that such actions erode the trust and faith that the people have in their government.
We, as a collective voice of the Nigerian student body, stand firmly against any form of oppression and injustice. We call on the federal government to act swiftly and ensure that the rights and welfare of every Nigerian, especially our young ones, are upheld and protected. It is time to put an end to bad governance and pave the way for a future where justice, fairness, and human dignity prevail.
